City Hotel Matyas Budapest

City Hotel Matyas Budapest Hungary

City Hotel Mßtyßs was the first member of the City Hotel chain. The hotel - established above the famed Matthias Cellar Restaurant - is located in the centre of Budapest just a couple of minutes from the pedestrianized Vßci Street lined with elegant boutiques. The Matthias Cellar Restaurant named after the great Hungarian king Matthias opened at the Pest side of the Danube by Elizabeth Bridge in 1904. The house serves authentic Hungarian foods - fish soup, Dorozsma carp, Matthias platter, strudels etc. - accompanied by the finest wines of the country and Gypsy music played by members of the Lakatos dynasty at midday and in the evening. Beautiful stained glass windows and frescoes - the work of Jeno Haranghy and Gyula Bozž - recount scenes from the life of King Matthias. Waiters and waitresses serve at table dressed in period costume.

The territory of the country is smaller than 100,000 square kilometers, the Hungarian language is spoken only by Hungarians, Hungarian folk songs are not similar to those of any other nation - yet the Hungarians have been living in the middle of Europe for over 1100 years. Despite the numerous disastrous turns of its history Hungary is still rich in values attracting many visitors from all over the world.
